Current Projects

Recent and forthcoming publications include hiking in the 10th Mountain Division Hut System in the Colorado Rockies (The New York Times Travel on August 21) and biking along the old Iron Curtain in the Czech Republic (The Wall St. Journal, August 27). Midstream, a Jewish intellectual journal, published The Rabbi’s Progress, a short story, in October.

Three stories will appear in November, including Diana Nyad’s attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida (Reader’s Digest) and a story about a different kind of super-endurance athlete for The Economist’s Intelligent Life. A piece on happiness and aging will be in the revamped Saturday Evening Post.

I’m at work on a profile of Charity Sunshine Tilleman Dick, a young opera singer who came back to sing after a double-lung transplant.

Other recent publications include my story on the fracking/natural gas controversy in South Africa’s Karoo Yale e-360, a publication that looks at global environmental issues, and Reuters, and the April issue of The Atlantic I have a piece about a recent and perhaps too daring hike in South Africa called Taking the Leap. The May issue of ForbesLife has a story on trekker Todd Carmichael’s attempt to cross Death Valley.
